Kelsey Eckenrode didn't want to blow her chance, so she took
plenty of time.
Not that she had much reason to hurry since there wasn't a
Jefferson City defender within 15 yards of her in the middle of the
box, but that didn't help her relax.
Eckenrode, who had been primarily playing a central defensive
midfield position for most of the game, still had to get the ball
past two-time all-state goalie Jessie Sanderson, who was charging
hard off her line.
"I get really nervous around goals, and I know their goalie is
really, really good, so I just tried to take it in the corner,
because that's what our coaches always emphasize," Eckenrode said.
