Although most of June and July have rendered Columbia concert halls deathly silent, the last couple of weeks of summer were already shaping up to be a salvation of sorts for the local music scene.

Now, they're a virtual deluge of deliverance.

Few touring acts have landed in Mid-Missouri to pump life into a limp District since our town has kicked the "college" that precedes it for nine months each year, but hope hovered on the horizon in September.

The call of all our festivals, from fledgling Roots 'N Blues 'N BBQ to varieties Twilight and Summer, promised an opening of the floodgates, with names such as Wilco, Los Straitjackets and Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars rushing into the streets.
