Lincoln's Magna Carta has been confirmed as one of the world's
most valuable documents following the pounds10.6m sale of a much
later copy.
Guardians of the city's incredibly rare document say it is worth
twice the amount paid by a private collector at Sotheby's, New York.
David Rubenstein, co-founder of private equity firm the Carlyle
Group, yesterday bought one of only 17 copies of Magna Carta.
Dated 1297, the document was issued under King Edward I.
But Lincoln's Magna Carta is a much earlier and rarer version.
It is one of just four surviving copies of the original 1215
documents issued by King John.
