Article: D.C. Boxing Commission Takes Step to Bring Mixed Martial Arts to City

In the fast-growing sport of mixed martial arts, the nation's capital has never hosted a fight card. The reason is simple: The gritty combat sport, which blends kickboxing, wrestling and Brazilian jujitsu, among other styles, has never been legal in the District. That may soon change.

The D.C. Boxing and Wrestling Commission on Thursday took the first step toward sanctioning mixed martial arts in the District by unanimously approving a local promoter's plan to put on a series of events.
