PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY

A Prince George's County police officer yesterday shot an 18- year-old man who was carrying a loaded semiautomatic handgun and was suspected of trying to steal a go-kart from a store in the Capitol Heights area, police said.

Upon seeing police arrive in the 4900 block of Marlboro Pike about 11 a.m., two men ran toward Hybrid Avenue and got into a tan Honda Accord that had two other occupants, police said.

One of the men left the car and got into a fight with an officer in a driveway of a nearby home, said Cpl. Diane Richardson, a police spokeswoman. Police did not identify the officer.
