The transformation of City Dock into a huge floating marina
started early Monday. As the sun rose over the Chesapeake Bay,
contractors, electrical technicians and designers began creating a
world-class boat basin. Temporary pilings now anchor floating docks
assembled in 20-foot sections secured by 636 3/4-inch bolts.
It is all part of the preparation for Annapolis to host two of
the most renowned boat shows and exhibitions in the world.
Today marks the beginning of the 37th annual United States
Sailboat Show, which runs through Monday. Once the show is over,
organizers will feverishly begin to convert City Dock into a
