St. Albans City Council on Monday officially turned down an offer
to have their city's emergency dispatch center absorbed into Kanawha
County's Metro 911 system.
Last month, then-Kanawha County Commission President and Metro 911
Chairman Kent Carper asked council to consider closing down the St.
Albans dispatch center and relying upon the county emergency system
to dispatch city fire and police units to emergencies. Such a move,
he said, could significantly reduce response time and save the city
more than $150,000 annually.
In a response to Carper's proposal approved Monday, St. Albans
made a pitch of its own: Keep the city's dispatch center open, but
