WINFIELD - Putnam County commissioners approved a budget of slightly more than $11 million Tuesday, an 11 percent increase over last year's budget, and did so without raising taxes.

"We're all satisfied with the budget," said Commissioner Jim Withrow. "We're coming through that lawsuit last year pretty good."

Two years ago, elected officials were asked to shave their budgets by 30 percent because the commissioners had to pay $700,000 in back pay to deputies after the deputies sued. This year, the county was able to fund most of the elected officials' wishes and to give money to outside agencies.
