Article: Moussaoui retracts guilty plea in 9/11 conspiracy case: 'I cannot endorse any action that would result in death,' suspect says

WASHINGTON - The unpredictable Zacarias Moussaoui legal drama lurched in a new direction Thursday when the accused terrorist retracted his guilty plea to charges he conspired with the Sept. 11 hijackers.

The avowed al-Qaida member indicated last week that he intended to plead guilty, and he reiterated that desire at the start of Thursday's tumultuous 2 1/2-hour hearing. But he balked after US District Judge Leonie Brinkema explained that he could not admit only to selected facts and would have to acknowledge participation in the conspiracy to hijack planes and slam them into the World Trade Center
