MONTGOMERY - The sparks from welding torches on a new building
could mean sparks in the economy of this town straddling the Kanawha-
Fayette county line.
After years of planning and hoping, a three-story building is
taking shape in the middle of Montgomery. "That building is the key,"
said Montgomery Mayor Melba Lou White. "Everyone is waiting for the
building to open."
Once it does, White and others believe it will spark economic
development throughout the town.
Chuck Smith, a former mayor of Montgomery, has always planned to
locate a branch of his accounting firm, Smith Cochran & Hicks, in the
new building. But now he says he may not be able to.
