BASEBALL RECENTLY conducted a poll of the game's most memorable
moments. But what about baseball down here at the boondock level?
Out at Watt Powell Park, the past 53 years have produced moments
that qualify as memorable and, considering that our beloved ballpark
awaits the wrecking ball, it seems fitting that we look back.
Many of the moments are not only memorable but involve some
distinctive names.
In chronological order:
* Joe Nuxhall, a 21-year-old left-handed pitcher with the
Charleston Senators, already has earned a reputation for his hot
temper. On a particularly frustrating night, manager Joe Beggs
