Virginia coach Al Groh has rewarded his entire team with a trip to
Charlotte for Saturday's Continental Tire Bowl, and now it's their
turn: He wants them to make it a trip they can enjoy for a lifetime.
"The only reward that the players get of value, of long-range
value to them and to the team, is winning," the second-year coach
said this week, before taking walk-ons and all to Charlotte for the
Dec. 28 game.
Bowl games often give players items like watches as keepsakes, but
"if you go and play poorly and you don't win, all those things that
are given as mementos of the game, you never want to see again
anyway," he said.
