Article: Foundation offers baby sleep guide

The National Sleep Foundation has created a nine-page booklet to answer new and experienced parents' questions about sleep, particularly for their infants.

The foundation convened a group of experts on children's sleep to author "Sleep, Your Baby and You."

For the first two months, a new baby doesn't distinguish between night and day, the guide says. Each baby has a distinct pattern of sleeping and waking. The baby's sleep patterns affect the child's behavior throughout the day, health and development.

Routines that parents help the baby learn will affect the baby and the rest of the family for months, or even years.
