As he walked around Watt Powell Park late Wednesday afternoon, the
thick grass met with Brandon League's approval.
For a pitcher with League's approach to getting batters out, the
grassy texture of baseball playing surfaces is a subject that's quite
relevant.
The 6-foot-2, 193-pound Honolulu native throws a nasty sinker,
often at speeds exceeding 90 mph, and if all goes well, opposing
hitters are reduced to mashing baseballs into the dirt in front of
home plate and finding themselves being thrown out at first base.
Pitchers always like seeing groundballs and especially so on
infields like Watt Powell's, where the conditions generally work
against the hitters.
