Article: Alley Cats celebrate Watt Powell history

The commemoration of Watt Powell Park will begin Thursday, the opening night of the Alley Cats' South Atlantic League season.

The Alley Cats will face the Delmarva Shorebirds beginning at 6:05 p.m. Thursday in what is expected to be the final season for the 54- year-old ballpark, and the team will pay tribute to its history, both professional and amateur.

The first 1,000 fans Thursday will receive a Jim Bunning bobblehead doll, honoring the 1956 Charleston Senators pitcher who was promoted to Detroit in July of that year and later earned induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame, the only former Charleston player ever to do so.
