Article: W.Va. towns get Main Street cash awards: Economic development program provides funds for communities to revitalize downtown areas

West Virginia communities received $50,000 in awards at the annual Main Street awards banquet Wednesday evening at the Charleston Marriott.

The event, sponsored by the West Virginia Council for Community and Economic Development, honors communities which best reflect the Main Street program's four-point approach of downtown economic development: design, economic restructuring, promotion and organization.

Main Street West Virginia, affiliated with the National Trust for Historic Preservation, was established in 1988 to assist communities in economic revitalization of their downtowns.
