Q. My sister and her husband recently threw a birthday party for
their 5-year-old daughter that included pony rides, a visit from
Cinderella (who gave each child a "magic gift"), a cake that rivaled
my wedding cake, and needless to say, a glut of expensive gifts
including a doll that looked just like her and "her first diamond."
At one point, I thought they were going to put her on a throne and
parade her through town. Our 5-year-old daughter attended and now
thinks that we should throw an equally lavish bash for her next
birthday. Your thoughts, please.
