Danny, 34, used to spend most of his days at home along Big Ugly
Creek in Lincoln County. He stayed in his bedroom or wandered into
the living room to sleep on a colorful blanket spread across the
floor.
That changed last year, thanks to a nonprofit group called Step by
Step.
Danny, who has severe Down syndrome, enrolled in a socialization
program run by Step by Step at the Big Ugly Community Center. He
visits the center several times a week.
He frequently stops by after school, when Lincoln County teens
pack the building. He also attends community dinners and celebrations
at the center.
