Article: Tainted green onions caution urged

PITTSBURGH - Kuhn's Markets had planned a sale on green onions at five western Pennsylvania stores, but nixed the idea last week when grocery store managers learned that scallions could be linked to an outbreak of hepatitis A that has killed three people and sickened 510, including 18 West Virginians.

"We were going to get a big shipment of [green onions ] for the promo, but we decided it wasn't a good idea. We didn't have to pull them. We just figured it's best to play it on the safe side," said Paul Mueller, Kuhn's Markets' risk manager.
