BEAVER, Pa. - Tainted green onions blamed for a hepatitis A
outbreak at a Chi-Chi's restaurant that has killed three people and
sickened hundreds more were traced to Mexico - just like green onions
blamed for smaller outbreaks in Tennessee and Georgia, the Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention said Friday.
CDC officials stopped short of saying that the green onions in the
Pennsylvania outbreak came from one of three Mexican companies known
to have supplied the onions blamed for the other two outbreaks.
Nineteen people from West Virginia were sickened in the outbreak,
said Joe Thornton, a spokesman for the West Virginia Department of
Health and Human Resources.
