Article: Mutual fire aid approved by narrow margin: South Charleston agrees to share resources with Charleston along cities' border

South Charleston City Council members approved an agreement with the city of Charleston to share firefighters during emergencies along the cities' borders.

In a 5-4 vote during Thursday night's meeting, the council agreed to try the mutual aid agreement out for a year. Councilmen Butch Buckley, Ron Hutchinson, Sonny Holstine and Dayton Griffith all opposed the agreement.

Under the plan, South Charleston's Weberwood station will respond to calls from Charleston residences in Vandalia and Fort Hill. Because Charleston's station off Corridor G is closer to South Charleston's territory around the Southridge shopping center, they'll respond to calls there.
