The Hagerstown Suns certainly lived up to their nickname Thursday.

The Suns beat down on the Alley Cats much like the midday rays fried the 3,742 students who gathered for the South Atlantic League game, a 6-2 Hagerstown victory at Watt Powell Park.

It was the third straight loss for the division-leading Alley Cats, who recently compiled a 13-game home winning streak and a 12- game streak overall. For the season, they're 20-7.

Hagerstown banged out 10 hits, including two homers and a triple off the center-field wall, and the Alley Cats wasted most of their scoring opportunities, stranding nine runners. The Alley Cats also left 11 on base in Wednesday night's series opener.
