Article: Zito working hard to end Preakness slump

BALTIMORE - He's won so many big races, Nick Zito could probably get by on reputation alone.

After 31 years as a trainer - and two Kentucky Derby victories - Zito certainly earned the right to delegate work.

That simply is not his style, however. So Zito was at Pimlico Race Course before dawn Tuesday, watching The Cliff's Edge and Sir Shackleton prepare for Saturday's Preakness Stakes with easy jogs around the track.

He also planned to escort his horses out of the barn in the late afternoon, just to make sure they're comfortable with their new surroundings.
