"Injustice everywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." I
usually refer to this Martin Luther King Jr. remark whenever people
ask me how the "issue with the Arabs" arose, or "why they hate us."
I want to respond to another reader's recent commentary that
wrongly suggested that the crises in the Middle East began in 1979
(this was an attempt to absolve President Bush from blame for the
current debacle there).
Unfortunately, the trouble did not start with the Iranian
students' attack on the American Embassy, because that was a reaction
to decades of U.S. support of a corrupt and oppressive shah.
