When he was about 15 years old, Eric Bailey was one of several kids who spent his summers working on Watt Powell Park's playing field.

Bailey would help managers smooth the pitcher's mound and line the field every day for the Little League teams that played at Watt Powell.

Other than the free drinks and ham sandwiches handed out by athletic trainer Red Hartman, Bailey didn't get paid for his grunt work.

"Red was just a great guy," Bailey said Monday. "You just wanted to help him."
