O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree, thy name is not unchanging.
Maybe it was the chill in the air that had aldermen thinking about
Christmas in October, but the Milwaukee Common Council voted 9-5
Tuesday to rename the large green object in Red Arrow Park as the
city's "Christmas tree," dumping the "holiday tree" label that has
been used since 1995.
That action was praised by a Christian group in Florida and
condemned by an atheist organization in Madison.
Aldermen uprooted the measure from a council committee, where it
had been planted for 10 months. Aldermen Jim Bohl and Terry Witkowski
had introduced it last December, when Christian conservatives and
talk show hosts were trying to rouse ...
