HOUMA, La. - Six National Guardsmen, all from southeast Louisiana
towns, were among those killed when a bomb blast struck their patrol
vehicle in Iraq.
"I learned last night that six Louisiana National Guard soldiers
from the 256th Infantry Brigade - and a fellow National Guardsmen
from New York - were killed while on patrol outside Baghdad when a
bomb destroyed their armored vehicle," Gov. Kathleen Blanco said in a
news release.
"Other Louisiana men and women who answered our nation's call to
serve in Iraq and Afghanistan have made the ultimate sacrifice but
this is a day we all prayed would never come. Dedicated Louisiana
