Article: Vintage East Bank High sign faces extinction

The final tangible reminder of a high school and middle school that served the East Bank area for nearly a century is in danger of being destroyed.

The 30-foot sign, reading "19 Cabin Creek Dis. High School 12," stood over the main door of the now demolished building which, from 1912 to 2001, ushered in generations of students and visitors, to Cabin Creek District High, to East Bank High and, ultimately, to East Bank Middle School.

Timeworn and eroding, the sign leans against a fence at East Bank Hall. Without a financial reprieve to preserve it, town officials and alumni fear the sign will be removed and relegated to memory.
