A new champion will be crowned in Class AAA while a pair of teams will seek to repeat as titlists in Class AA and A, respectively, when the two-day state softball tournament begins today in Vienna.

Defending Class AAA state champion Cabell Midland lost in the regional final to upstart Spring Valley. In Class AA, Shady Spring returns in search of its seventh state title while Richwood hopes to add to its history in Class A where the Lumberjacks won the school's first championship in a team sport last year.

Frankfort (20-6), ranked fifth in the final regular-season state coaches association poll, and No. 9 Magnolia (26-5) will get things started with a Class AA matchup ...
