Article: Pittsburg wins battle of Pirates Hardy defense makes San Leandro walk plank

SAN LEANDRO -- One crew of Pirates is still at full sail, pointed toward future treasure. The other team of Pirates, for all intents, went the way of the Black Pearl.

In a football game neither team could afford to lose, Pittsburg High's defense came up with a handful of huge plays to forge a 21-3 non-league victory Friday over San Leandro at Burrell Field.

The win ended Pittsburg's four-game losing streak to San Leandro.

Pittsburg (7-2) is fully in the hunt for the North Coast Section 4-A playoffs. San Leandro, an NCS finalist last year, stands 6-3 with a week left and probably won't make the postseason.
