RALEIGH, N.C. - State health officials announced a recall Monday
of egg salad made by West Virginia-based Ballard's Farm Sausage Inc.
because of possible contamination.
The salad was sold in 12-ounce containers as Ballard's Farm Egg
Salad at Wal-Mart and other food retailers across North Carolina. The
recall includes salads marked with a use-by date of Nov. 7.
The recall was issued after a routine sample collected from a Wal-
Mart in Wake County tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes, which
can cause serious or fatal infections in young children or elderly
people.
