Once South Charleston held onto the ball Friday night, everything else fell into place.

The Black Eagles, who committed four turnovers, took better care of the football after halftime and received a much stouter defensive performance in securing a 12-10 victory against Spring Valley in a Class AAA Mountain State Athletic Conference matchup. A senior night crowd of about 1,200 attended at South Charleston's Oakes Field.

South Charleston (5-3), which came into the game No. 19 in the SSAC computer ratings, also kept alive its postseason hopes with its second-half comeback. The top 16 teams in each of the three classes advance to the playoffs. Spring Valley fell to 3-6.
