Article: Taylor to revert to paper ballots

The vision of a sleek, all-electronic future for elections has run aground in Taylor County, where officials say they were better off with paper ballots.

Fed up with delays, maintenance costs and a pre-election work crunch, the Northern West Virginia county wants to return its electronic voting machines to the state and go back to old-fashioned ballots.

The County Commission plans to hold a special meeting Sept. 18 to notify the public of its plan. If the public doesn't object in the form of a petition within 90 days, the May 2008 primary will mark the beginning of the post-electronic age for Taylor County.

It can't come soon enough for County Clerk Nancy Fowler.
