Article: Toyota driven from Alameda's Park Street

ALAMEDA -- In the not-too-distant past, Alameda's Park Street had four new-car dealerships. In three years, it may have just one.

The Island's Ron Goode Toyota will switch ownership hands at the end of the year, following a recent deal to sell to a Southern California company with plans to move off the Island, dealership officials said.

A move from Alameda would be a major blow to the city's sales- tax base and would leave questions about the future of the northern portion of the Park Street corridor, near the Park Street Bridge.

Alan Wiese, the dealership's general manager, said he and others had hoped to stay.
