While Santa might be getting ready at the North Pole for
Christmas, the South Pole has already had a special delivery, thanks
to a band of Kiwi elves.
The American base at the South Pole is the most expensive place
on the planet to supply, with every kilogram having to be flown in
by the United States Air Force.
But on Wednesday night they had a load parachuted from a USAF C17
jet.
Each of the loads was prepared by six New Zealand Defence Force
staff working at McMurdo Station, the American base next door to
Scott Base, as part of New Zealand's shared logistics pool with the
United States.
Major Toni Duffield, at Scott Base, said the airdrop was an
