A mere 18 months after going private, Education Management Corp.
plans to go public again by registering up to $500 million worth of
initial public shares, according to a filing Friday with the
Securities and Exchange Commission.
Downtown-based Education Management runs 81 post-secondary
schools, including the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. The schools are
located in 26 states and Canada and have about 96,000 students
enrolled. The company employs about 8,400 people.
The prospectus that was filed did not specify how many new shares
the company would issue or at what price.
In June 2006, publicly held shares of Education Management were
