Article: Make yours a Vampire Weekend

THE WORD ON THE WEB

Another week, another band from Brooklyn. However, what Vampire Weekend lack in geographical uniqueness, they make up in clever, irreverent lyrics and poppy, jaunty melodies. The four boys sing about what they know: Oxford Commas (an optional comma before the word "and" at the end of a list, if you were wondering), a certain New York bus route and mansard roofs. There's something of Paul Simon's Graceland in their sound - afro-funk guitars and an 18th- century harpsichord pop up in their songs. Their eponymous debut album is out in February - it may be a little rough around the edges, but it certainly doesn't lack imagination.
