After 48 years of service to the borough of Everson, a 92-year-
old borough council member has retired.
After the last regular meeting of the Everson Borough Council,
John W. Szolek stood up and said he had a story to tell.
It was in 1959 and Szolek, then a 44-year-old firefighter,
received a phone call at the fire station from his wife, who
informed him that she had filled out an application for him to serve
on council.
The rest is 48 years of service.
"I've had 12 consecutive four-year terms," Szolek said. "I'm
going to miss it. I enjoyed being on council."
He said his 12 terms on council were full of well-conducted
meetings with the idea to move the borough forward.
