Article: OBITUARY CHANGE `AN OPPORTUNITY'

The Evansville Courier & Press on Tuesday will begin offering families the chance to memorialize their loved ones in print and on the Internet as part of a new paid obituary policy.

The switch to paid obituaries is part of a newspaper industry trend.

"In most newspapers our size across the country this is common," said Evansville Courier & Press President and Publisher Vince Vawter.

As at most newspapers that have made the move to charge for obituaries, the decision hasn't come without soul-searching.
