Ellis Gray can trace this style of fish sandwich back to Jim Arnold in Washington, Ind.

Three large pieces of cod are hand-breaded and fried and served on a bun. The fish is piled so high that the sandwich is taller than it is round.

Arnold served the sandwiches at Hamburger Jim's in Washington in the 1960s where Gray ate them as a child. Now Gray serves them at the Fish Hut Pizza in Petersburg, Ind.

The sandwich is so thick with fish that you can take out one piece of fish to eat by itself and not feel you are missing a thing on your sandwich. I asked for a little tartar sauce for mine.
