Left-over or expired prescription drugs are the target of a new
program meant to collect the medications before they are discarded or
flushed.
Beginning May 17, firefighters at any station in Warrick County
will accept medications in their original packaging from from 9 a.m.
to noon. Sheriff's deputies will then haul the drugs to the Household
Hazardous Waste Disposal at Alcoa Warrick Operations.
Medications can be taken to the hazardous waste site at Alcoa
until 2 p.m.
"When I first heard about this," said Warrick Sheriff Marvin
Heilman, "my reaction was, `Why do I care?' I was very quickly
educated."
