The last time K.C. Groves was in this neck of the woods was for
the funeral of the father of bluegrass.
When Bill Monroe's body was brought from Nashville, Tenn., to be
buried in his hometown of Rosine, Ky., "I drove all night from
Michigan and watched his coffin lowered into the ground," she said.
Groves, who now lives in Boulder, Colo., will perform with Uncle
Earl at Bluegrass in the Park on Saturday. The all-female band plays
traditional and old-timey songs with dark themes and sweet harmonies.
"I played bluegrass for a long time, but to me, old-timey has a
plaintive quality to it," she said. "It's all about the songs and the
