So you're driving home for Thanksgiving because you didn't book a
flight in time. Instead of trying to ungarble the radio every 50
miles, rent an audiobook from the library, buy it from a Web site
such as Amazon.com or download it at www.audible.com.
Trippin' to the Midwest. "The Corrections" by Jonathan Franzen,
read by George Guidall (21 hours 56 minutes). The novel jolted the
book world in 2001 with its tragicomic blow-by-blow of a Midwestern
family's disintegration. If you resisted reading it then, consider
listening to it now. Guidall's strained, syrupy voice will help you
exorcise your familial angst before you pull into your parents'
driveway.
