A major satellite-television company wants to make local
television broadcasts available to its Evansville-area subscribers.
DishNetwork, a division of EchoStar Communications and a leading
provider of satellite television nationwide, is negotiating with the
Tri-State's four commercial television stations in an effort to reach
agreement on adding the local broadcasts.
If talks succeed, the offering of local broadcasts to satellite
television subscribers would allow DishNetwork to leap one of the
major hurdles facing satellite TV -- the inability to bring local TV
broadcasts to satellite-TV subscribers, said Michelle Portillo, a
spokeswoman for DishNetwork.
