When Jan Majors' husband was transferred to Fort Campbell, she got
a job as a department manager in the same Clarksville, Tenn., bank
where they got their mortgage loan.
But her department was eliminated when the bank was acquired, and
because Majors is an Army spouse prone to moving, she lost her job.
"They actually told me, `we want somebody more stable who is going
to be here for awhile,'" said Majors, 33, a mother of two.
Majors now participates in a program at Fort Campbell that
provides one year of career counseling and job training to military
spouses. The hope is that with training in high demand professions,
participants can get jobs paying at least $12 per hour when they have
