Clint Barmes couldn't forget. Mark Sweeney wouldn't let him.
"Get that front foot down!" Sweeney would yell from the dugout,
every time Barmes stepped into the batter's box.
Sweeney, the veteran outfielder/first baseman, furnished the
reminder when he and Barmes were teammates on the Colorado Rockies
last fall.
It's become a key to Barmes' approach to hitting -- an approach
that has made the Colorado Springs Sky Sox shortstop one of the top
hitters in the minor leagues.
"I try to use the same approach for every at-bat," said Barmes, a
25-year-old Vincennes native who is in his second season with the
Rockies' top farm club. "I keep my weight back, I put my front foot
down early so I can wait ...
