Jamey Carroll should have known better. Little guys don't try to
dunk, even on a 9-foot goal.
He remembers the date as if it were yesterday: March 9, 1991.
Playing basketball in the driveway of a friend's house in Newburgh,
Carroll was rejected from behind trying to dunk. He lost his footing
and broke his arm trying to break the fall.
His junior baseball season at Castle High School was over before
it started. So was summer baseball. For the compound fracture, four
plates were inserted into his right forearm. The doctor told him he
might never play baseball again.
Determined to prove people wrong, the 5-foot-9, 170-pound Carroll
