Article: PERRY COUNTY GETS ITS DAY AT THE RACES

Mark Fortwendel, a saloonkeeper from Troy, Ind., and Clarence Franchville, an insurance/advertising salesman working out of Tell City, will be at Ellis Park today, presenting blankets to the winner of the featured 10th race they're sponsoring.

They are co-chairmen of the track's Perry County, Ind. Day, responsible for enlisting 22 sponsors for the 11-race card.

The number to beat is rival Ferdinand, which helped fuel the meet's top day of 6,036 fans.

"The worst thing that can happen is we'll say `wait till next year,'" said Franchville. "Because it's going to be a fantastic day no matter."
