Article: GRADUATION RATE DECLINE HAS MANY VOICING ALARM

A growing number of young Hoosiers are dropping out of high school, a decision that the Indiana Chamber of Commerce president said equates to "an economic death sentence."

Indiana's graduation rate has declined over the past decade and now stands at 71 percent, according to a new state chamber report that looked at several ways of calculating the rate.

The Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corp. graduation rate historically has been close to the state's rate. It is an issue that EVSC Acting Superintendent Robert Yeager has repeatedly stressed in meetings with principals and staff, said Jean Baresic, assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction.
