Article: `WEST SIDE STORY' WAS JUMPING-OFF POINT FOR CAREERS

"West Side Story" is a timeless tale with mythology, Shakespeare and theater all capitalizing on the tragedy. For Evansville, the stage production also has a history.

This summer marks the second time the Evansville- Vanderburgh School Corp. and Public Education Foundation have presented the production. The first was in 1995.

For many of the original cast members, "West Side Story" was an inspiring experience that marked the beginning of successful careers in theater. Three are in New York City, two are in Nashville, Tenn., and one is dancing in Las Vegas, but all pay tribute to the summer musicals as a vital steppingstone.
